Vincent Thomas "Vince" Lombardi (June 11, 1913 – September 3, 1970) was an American football coach. He is best known as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s. The National Football League's Super Bowl trophy is named in his honor.
Lombardi played football at St. Francis Preparatory School, and later Fordham University. He began coaching as an assistant and later as a head coach at St. Cecilia High School. He would later become an assistant coach at Fordham University, the U.S. Military Academy, and the New York Giants before becoming a head coach for the Green Bay Packers from 1959–67 and the Washington Redskins in 1969

Vince Lombardi is a name that's synonymous with football history. But many of you may not know it's also synonymous with the launch of Succesories as well. The excerpt from Vince Lombardi's famous speech, "What It Takes to Be Number 1 " was our very first product, and 23 years later, it's still going strong.
Lombardi was one of my heroes. He was the symbol of excellence for the entire sport. As head coach of the Green Bay Packers, Lombardi led the team to five NFL championships and to winning Super Bowls I and II.

Whenever I speak, almost without exception, someone from the audience will come up after I'm done to tell me they have a copy of "What It Takes to Be Number 1 " in their office or den. One could wonder why. The quote is more than 40 years old. What's at play here?
Well, some things are timeless, some things are enduring and some things never change. Things like the human qualities of commitment, excellence, discipline and truth. My father had the fortunate ability of being able to articulate his ideas about these enduring qualities in a "grab you where you live" kind of way. In addition, he compiled a winning record in a tough, competitive environment that would lead you to believe he knew what he was talking about.
I'm honored to be a part of this What It Takes to Be Number 1, and to share the nine key principles that shaped my father's philosophy of coaching, and of life. I hope that in some small way it will help you reach your goals.
